Join the conference in a city of science & culture: Darmstadt is the center of science and high-tech within the metropolitan region Rhein-Main. The city with 150,000 inhabitants is just in the middle of Europe and only a small step away from the international airport in Frankfurt. Darmstadt is one out of four “cities of science” in Germany, having the Technical University, which was founded in 1877, as well as an University of Applied Science and three different institutes of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, which is the largest organisation for applied research in Europe. Research in Darmstadt led 1994 to the discovery of a new chemical element with the atomic number 110 that is referred to as “Darmstadtium”. In Darmstadt there’re the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) as well as the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) which is Europe’s gate to the space. About 35 organisations and firms with 6,000 people carry out research activities in Darmstadt.

The city’s history and culture was shaped by grand dukes until the early 19th century and then for slightly more than 100 years by landgraves: In the city center there’s the residential castle from the 16th century and the city’s most famous place is the artists’ colony from 1899 which brought Darmstadt into the magic of Art Nouveau.

The conference will be held at the “Maschinenhaus” of the Technical University, which is a lovely building from 1904 and perfectly suited for an international conference just a walk away from the city center.
